We've named her Teddy Love and Crista carries her around everywhere. Crista loves her Teddy Love...
Last week was a busy one! We started off last Saturday going to a Multi-cultural family picnic sponsored by the Miriam Project in Anderson (they did our homestudy for our adoption and led us to Michele, our adoption attorney). We met other families who have adopted children from a different culture. It turned out to be a wonderful afternoon and Crista really enjoyed being the center of attention!
These next couple of pictures are from last Sunday after church. I love this dress on Crista!
Sunday afternoon Crista got her first taste of "Weenee World"! Its a great little hotdog stand in New Castle that Jake and I love going to. They have animal statues there but Crista wasn't too sure of the gorilla!
Crista has decided she likes to walk using her walker-it gives her independence! In the first picture she was trying to figure out how the walker works. At first, Crista could only go backwards. But it didn't take her long to master it! She loves to "walk" outside on the driveway. You can see the determination on her face! The last picture I think is just adorable!
Crista still loves to read her books. Her attention span while looking at books amazes me! She'll look at a page, babble, turn the page, and babble more-like she's really "reading" the book! She'll even throw in laughs every once in a while for good measure! I love watching her entertain herself this way!
(PS-We do have clothes for this child, she's not a throw-away. It was really hot that day so we stripped her down! She's super cute in a diaper and bow!!)
We've had wonderful weather this week so we've been outside as much as possible. Here are a few pictures of Crista enjoying our lazy summer days.
Our beautiful Crista Elise...
Yesterday was a big day for Crista...she got her ears pierced!!! In Guatemala, all baby girls get their ears pierced, usually before leaving the hospital! Having their daughter's ears pierced tells the world that their baby is loved. It is actually shameful for a little girl not to have her ears pierced because it shows she is not loved. Jake and I liked the cultural significance of getting her ears done and decided we would also tell the world how much our baby girl is loved!
Crista was unsure of what was going on at first but let everyone know pretty quickly she did NOT like getting her ears pierced. Actually, I really don't think it hurt at all, it was the noise of the gun that scared her. Our friend Michele was with Crista and me and took pictures and video of the big event (Jake said he couldn't (wouldn't)go with us because he didn't want to hear her crying). Crista cried only for a minute or so and was all smiles when we got home. I think they look very cute and dainty. Here are a few pictures of Crista getting her ears done. The last one was taken when we got home to show she was just fine afterwards.

"The lady got me right here." Crista said.
My pretty earrings. (Notice the little tear in her eye)
All better!!
